Roughly fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered many other smeared cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
City officials said they were working "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for information.
A high-ranking political figure said the incident made him without words and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
